When sharing files between university offices, it is recommended that you save your files in their native format since most offices on campus use Microsoft Office 2007 files and file formats.  The guidelines linked from this page however, should be used when a compatibility issue exists between a file(s) that people are trying to share.

Faculty, staff, and offices are encouraged (but not mandated) to observe the recommended (OPEN) file formats below whenever practical, and when the communication aims can be successfully achieved through such formats. When the communications aims cannot be achieved through open formats, the most accessible proprietary (CLOSED) formats should be adopted.

For more information please visit the ACPAC Open Format Guidelines.
