NSMH was founded in spring 1989 at Cornell University. NSHM has grown tremendously from four visionary leaders to over 1,000 students across the country that continue to set the precedent for the future leaders of this industry. NSMH is the premier professional
organization for hospitality students. We address diversity and multiculturalism, as well as the career development of our student members. We feel that these lessons are important to the future leaders of this industry and that anyone of any ethnicity,
gender, or other demographic group can find value in our conversation.
NSMH provides events and programs that bring together college-level students with company sponsors, industry representatives, other hospitality organizations, advisors and mentors, and hospitality high school students. With respect to students and education,
NSMH aims to be a total resource center. NSMH is a resource for the industry to find dynamic talent as well as for students to find qualified answers to relevant questions and have a window to the industry that awaits them!
IUP’s NSMH is a part of the Northeast Region, and we have regional and national conferences every year. We participate in on-campus events such as IUP Day and Counterblast, and we fundraise throughout the semester in Ackerman Hall. We also do volunteer
work within the Indiana, Pennsylvania, community.
The benefits to joining our organization is going to regional and national conferences where hotels, restaurant organizations, and even Disney offer jobs and internships to its members. In addition, there are also scholarships available. Members have
the opportunity of becoming a board member or national member.
To join, NSMH students need to sign up and pay a $15 dues fee (t-shirt/fundraiser) and $10 to be a member on the NSMH website.
