James Hoyland, an adjunct faculty member in IUP's Criminal Justice Training Center and a corporal for the New Castle Police Department, has been chosen as the state’s Sergeant Mike Hayes School Resource Officer of the Year for 2022. 

Corporal Hoyland has been with NCPD for 16 years, also serving as the school resource officer for the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center and as head of the Laurel School District Police Department. The Sergeant Mike Hayes School Resource Officer of the Year Award exemplifies the highest standards of school-based law enforcement.
