Students in John Benhart's Unmanned Aerial Systems for Geospatial Data Acquisition class spent part of the spring 2020 semester processing drone-acquired data to support economic development planning by the Indiana County Office of Planning and Development.

Students Scott Beegle, Lauren Boda-Sutton, Brandon Dykun, Zachary Fjellenger, Jordan Hudzicki, Callie Olvera, Jessica Palmer, David Rand, Spencer Samios, Isaac Thompson, Julia Waszyn, and Cassie Wolfe processed over 600 aerial photographs captured of the Indiana County Corporate Campus (located at the intersection of Routes 119 and 22 in Burrell Township just north of Blairsville, Pa.) into a single seamless orthophoto with .92-inch resolution orthophotography and a 3.68-inch resolution digital terrain model using DroneDeploy software (San Francisco, Calif.).

The high-resolution imagery is going to be used by ICOPD to market available sites for potential employers and manufacturers at the campus.

Students completing the Unmanned Aerial Systems for Geospatial Data Acquisition capstone course will be eligible to earn the Unmanned Aerial Systems Science certificate (four courses, 12 credits).
