2022 IUP Spring Methodology Conference

The Department of Foreign Languages held the annual IUP Spring Methodology Conference on Foreign Language Teaching on Friday, April 22, 2022. The organizing committee included: Christina Huhn (co-chair), Marjorie Zambrano-Paff (co-chair), Charles McCreary (chair, Department of Foreign Languages), Heide Witthoeft (German), and Laurel Liu (Chinese).

The 2022 keynote speaker was Francis Troyan of the Ohio State University. Troyan is originally from Johnstown and participated in the APPLES language festival while in high school. His keynote address was titled “Genre Matters in World Language Education: Contextualized Assessment and Learning” and was followed by a workshop on the same topic.

Additional presentations included presentations by current IUP faculty and alumni:

  • “Networking Session: Teacher Recruitment and Retention,” Christina Huhn, associate professor, Department of Foreign Languages
  • “Interaction and Assessment in Online Language Teaching and Learning: Issues and Strategies,” Shijuan “Laurel” Liu, Department of Foreign Languages.
  • “Nurse-Patient Care Simulations: An Interprofessional Experience,” Marjorie Zambrano-Paff, Department of Foreign Languages.
