Food and Nutrition Minor

Blend nutrition with your passion for another discipline

Expand your education and gain knowledge in nutrition while pursuing your degree in related fields such as nursing and allied health, pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, food service management, health and physical education, child development, and family and consumer sciences. This minor sequence is also for students who have a personal, consumer-oriented interest in nutrition.

Courses Required for a Nutrition Minor (18–19 credits total)

  • Required Courses: (6 credits)
    • FDNT 145 Personal Nutrition or FDNT 212* Nutrition (3 credits)
    • FDNT 213 Life Cycle Nutrition (3 credits)

*Prerequisites for FDNT 212 are CHEM 101/102 or CHEM 103 or BIOL 104/106

  • Controlled Electives (Select four of the following courses. Must meet any course prerequisites)
    • FDNT 150 Foods Lecture (3 credits)
    • FDNT 245 Sports Nutrition (3 credits)
    • FDNT 255 Nutrition Assessment and Medical Terminology (3 credits)
    • FDNT 370 Human Food Consumption Patterns (3 credits)

    • FDNT 410 Food, Nutrition and Aging (3 credits)
    • FDNT 415 Sustainable Nutrition (3 credits)
    • FDNT 422 Public Health, Nutrition and Epidemiology (3 credits)
    • FDNT 445 Advanced Sports Nutrition (3 credits)
    • FDNT 459 Advanced Human Metabolism: Macronutrients (3 credits)
    • FDNT 460 Advanced Human Metabolism: Micronutrients (3 credits)
    • FDNT 471 Integrative Nutrition in Complementary/ Alternative Healthcare (3 credits)

Individuals interested in pursuing a nutrition minor should complete the application for a nutrition minor. If you would like additional information about careers in nutrition, contact the Food and Nutrition Department chairperson for advisement. 

The completion of the this minor neither meets the requirements for practice as a credentialed nutritionist nor satisfies the academic requirements of the Commission on Dietetic Registration or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to become a registered dietitian. If you are interested in become a registered dietitian, you may be eligible to apply for the Master of Science in Food and Nutrition Dietitan-Nutritionist Program.
