Human health represents an outcome of our adaptation – our resilience and vulnerability – to a broad array of environmental stressors. Health consequences are physical and emotional; stressors are both natural and social, and short- and long-term. A primary theme of this seminar will be the central role of “allostasis” in maintenance or deterioration of health status. Allostasis is a concept to potentially unify behavioral, social, medical, and natural sciences in understanding and promoting human well-being.
