John Branscum and Yi Izzy Yu were finalists for the spring 2020 International Gabriel Garca Mrquez Award for Multilingual Texts for their piece "Remembering Those Whose Names Are Forgotten."
The Gabo Award is sponsored by Antioch University and Lunch Ticket Magazine.
Branscum and Yu's piece explores how history and our hearts are haunted by voices both forgotten and silenced through their exploration of the lives of a mysterious Buddhist nun and monk.
Branscum is a professor in the English Department, and Yu is a graduate of the English Department's PhD in Composition and Applied Linguistics program.
