MA TESOL Program Planning Worksheet

The courses offered in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA at IUP prepare students to excel in a variety of career choices, particularly teaching at the community-college level or teaching abroad. All classes in the TESOL MA are offered in a traditional course format.

Below are the required courses for the TESOL MA:

Core Courses (15cr)

ENGL 625: Introduction to TESOL

ENGL 644: Teaching Methodology, Materials, and Instructional Technology

ENGL 649: Introduction to Research in TESOL and Applied Linguistics

ENGL 724: Second Language Acquisition

ENGL 725: Second Language Literacy

Teacher Education Component (6cr)

ENGL 688: Practicum in TESOL

ENGL 694: Observation of English Teaching

TESOL Research Component: Thesis Track Only (6cr)

Six thesis credit hours are required in addition to:

ENGL 795: Thesis Research

TESOL Electives (9cr)

ENGL 705: Language and Social Contexts

ENGL 723: Second Language Teaching

ENGL 730: Teaching Writing

ENGL 742: Cross Cultural Communication
