Bio: Eric Gruss

  • “I started working with local area networks as a systems engineer with LAN Associates in Babylon, N.Y., in 1992. At that time, Novell Netware was just about the only network operating system, and I have worked with every flavor of it over the last eighteen years—I still use it today. Along the way, Microsoft introduced their own network operating system, and I have also worked with literally every flavor of it, and still use it today.

“In 1996, I joined Link Computer in Bellwood, Pa., and began working with Cisco equipment while supporting netware and NT. After a while I became a senior systems engineer specializing in wide area networks, virtual private networks, wireless, and IP telephony; essentially all aspects of switching, routing, and security. I routinely designed, implemented, and supported large-scale projects across Pennsylvania and sometimes beyond.

“Eventually I grew tired of traveling, and in 2003 I decided to accept a position at Reliance Bank. I am currently an assistant vice president at Reliance Bank, headquartered in Altoona, Pa. Since we are a small bank (nine locations, 120 employees, $250 million in deposits), I am both the information security officer and the information technology manager. I am responsible for all aspects of technology and information security from the desktop to the data center and beyond.”
