Graduation Checklist for Graduate Students

  • Here’s a handy checklist of things you need to know and do before leaving IUP.

    • Access MyIUP

      1. Review DegreeWorks and your unofficial transcripts with your academic advisor. 

      2. Verify your name and address (Personal Information tab).

      3. Apply for graduation (Academics tab)

      4. As the December 12 commencement ceremonies are now virtual, confirmation of attendance is not required. To be recognized as part of the Virtual Winter Commencement ceremonies (with or without a photo), please submit this short participation form by Tuesday, December 1, at 11:59 p.m. Also, look for an email from your academic college about an in-person celebration.

        • December and January graduates are invited to participate in the December Commencement Ceremony. 
        • May and August graduates are invited to participate in the May Commencement Ceremony.
    • Visit or call the Co-Op Store to order your master’s or doctoral regalia (cap, gown, and hood). You can also purchase graduation announcements, diploma frames, etc. If you have not done this already, please do so as soon as possible.

    • Clear financial obligations with the Office of the Bursar.

    • Diploma will be mailed two to six weeks after your last term of attendance, after degree conferral. 

    • Transcripts can be ordered through the Office of the Registrar.

      • To ensure your degree is included on the transcript, check “hold for degree” on the paper transcript request form. The transcript will be sent as soon as the degree is awarded.

      • If your degree is not needed on the transcript, order using any of the four options provided on the Registrar’s Office website.

    Your IUP Email Account

    • Your IUP email account will become inactive 60 days after graduation. As an IUP graduate you may also enjoy a free alumni email account—IUP Live Mail—from IUP Alumni Relations. 

    • Learn more at IUP Live Mail Account. If you have any questions, please contact Alumni Relations at alumni-relations@iup.edu.

    Complete the “Request for Changes to the Online Graduation Application” form if you would like to:

    • Change your diploma name;

    • Update the address to which your diploma will be mailed;

    • Move your graduation date; or

    • Remove your graduation application.

    The form can be found on the School of Graduate Studies website.
