Tom was born and raised in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he attended Greater Latrobe High School, graduating in 1985. He then attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a major in accounting in 1989. After graduating, he went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Monroeville for nine years. During that time, Tom also attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania's graduate school in the evenings, earning a Masters in Business Administration in 1994. He has spent the last 16 years at Kennametal in Latrobe.

Over the past 25 years, Tom has held positions of increasing responsibility in accounting, including general ledger accountant and coordinator, financial analyst, senior financial analyst, lead financial planner, financial manager, accounting manager, and manager of Corporate Financial Services. He has had financial management responsibilities over several departments, including: Global Distribution, U.S. Payroll, Purchasing, Global Information Technology, service divisions, property, plant and equipment, Operational Excellence and Lean for Finance, Facilities, and Environmental Health and Safety.

Currently, Tom is the manager of Financial Systems and Processes at Kennametal. Over the past several years, Tom has also been the project manager for the implementation of U.S. SAP expense reporting, the global finance training initiative for the SAP 6.0 upgrade, and implementation of U.S. automated pay advices.

Tom also trains in Taekwondo, which he started 29 years ago while at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and holds a third-degree black belt. He also holds a first-degree black belt in HaiDongGumDo, the art of the Korean sword, as well as occasionally participating in Aikido, Judo, and Kung Fu. He is also an avid runner, weightlifter, and snowboarder and participates on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Eberly College of Business Advisory Council. Tom also received the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Eberly College of Business Alumni Award in 2009.

Tom is currently living in Irwin, Pennsylvania, and is a single father of two children: a son, Nicholas, and a daughter, Alex.
