“As a Pittsburgh native and first-generation college student, I chose Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) because of the Business Honors Program, the AACSB accreditation, and the welcoming atmosphere when I toured the university. Neither of my parents attended college, so I knew very early on that my goal was to be a first-generation college graduate and make the most of everything. I remember touring IUP and envisioning myself walking the halls for the next four years. The university was a perfect size—one that I knew I could really make an impact in. I applied and was accepted in the Business Honors Program, and I knew it was the right fit.

The Business Honors Program was one of my favorite experiences at Eberly. Taking on challenging courses while building connections with my cohort over my four years of college was an experience that really shaped me professionally. Traveling out of the country for the first time to India broadened my perspectives personally. Connecting with students and alumni across the globe will forever be one of my most cherished moments.

As a first-generation college student, I was clueless walking into Eberly. Very quickly I noticed how much the college offers students and I took part in everything that interested me. I was involved in the Business Honors Program and have held several leadership positions in Eberly’s organizations. While balancing these extracurricular roles, I worked part-time jobs throughout my college career. I joined the Eberly Digital Marketing Team, where I gained many technical skills for the marketing field, while building relationships that will last a lifetime. I earned recognition by making the Dean’s List all semesters and represented the College of Business on IUP’s Crimson Court in 2020. I also worked four internships throughout my college career for Pittsburgh Magazine, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Dress for Success, and Highmark Health.

Post-graduation I plan to visit ECOB student organizations to discuss my experiences and provide tips to make the most out of one’s college career. I am currently working in Pittsburgh for Highmark Health as a Leadership Acceleration Program Association. I hope to pay in forward and welcome Business Honors students for tours of the company and host alumni events in the city. I plan to be a member of the Crimson Network providing mentorship to students as I grow in my profession. I also hope to be on Eberly’s Business Advisory Council so that I keep in touch with the Business College and take part in making decisions with them. Eventually, my goal is to provide scholarships to business students that struggle financially. IUP and the Eberly College of Business has transformed me into the professional I am today, so I will give back in any way possible.

I am so thankful for every opportunity I was offered and participated in at the Eberly College of Business. I made lifelong connections with students and alumni, established a strong skillset in leadership and teamwork, and truly had both the best personal and professional experiences in my lifetime.”
