Accounting Major

Laura Kline"I even shopped around to see what other schools and colleges had to offer, and IUP/Eberly had the best value with respect to the experience that was offered for learning. I wanted to major in Accounting and the amenities and recognition as one of the best business colleges to attend appealed to me. "

I am from Kittanning, Pa., and I decided to attend IUP/Eberly because I read what a great college Eberly is to go for a business education. I liked the idea that the faculty took the initiative to help students who needed any assistance with their learning. I even shopped around to see what other schools and colleges had to offer, and IUP/Eberly had the best value with respect to the experience that was offered for learning. I wanted to major in Accounting, and the amenities and recognition as one of the best business colleges to attend also appealed to me.

During my college career, I was on the Dean's List and made Provost Scholar. I have been awarded the Margaret M. Patton Scholarship (Spring 2007), IUP APSCUF Non-Traditional Student Scholarship (Fall 2008), and the Eberly Family Scholarship (Spring 2009).

I received the IUP Service Learning Project of the Year Award (Spring 2009), and also was given a recognition from the IRS for outstanding public service contributed to my community from volunteering for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

I was nominated by a faculty member and featured in a multi-page story in IUP Magazine (Fall 2009) for outstanding academic achievement and work ethic while coping with juvenile/rheumatoid arthritis.

I volunteered at the American Red Cross (Indiana, Pa.) and volunteered at ICCAP (Indiana County Community Action Partnership) for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.

Currently, I am volunteering at Armstrong County Community Action Agency (ACCAA). I have worked in a few departments such as Medical Transportation, Central Administration in the fiscal department, and CCIS (Child Care Information Services). My work has helped the agency, especially when the employees of the agency were laid off due to lack of funding and a state budget (Aug. 1-Nov. 1, 2009). I have learned skills that I will at to my existing skills acquired from prior volunteering at other locations.
