Mr. Manzinger is a true native of Pennsylvania, having grown up in Philadelphia, Scranton, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg. He enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1977 and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. During his senior year at IUP, he participated in the internship program in the Pittsburgh office of Price Waterhouse. Upon graduation, he joined Price Waterhouse as a member of the auditing staff.
In 1984, Mr. Manzinger enrolled in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He graduated in 1986, earning a Master of Business Administration degree with concentration in economics and international finance. While in graduate school, he worked part time at the Federal Reserve Bank.
Mr. Manzinger joined Parker/Hunter, a regional investment bank in Pittsburgh, in 1986. While at Parker/Hunter, he participated in several M&A transactions and initial public offerings, including the IPO of Respironics in 1988.
Mr. Manzinger joined McKinsey & Co. in 1988. During his two years at McKinsey, he worked on several client engagements focused primarily on value creation through strategic acquisitions. Although based in Pittsburgh, he spent considerable time in McKinsey offices in New York, London, and Paris.
In 1990, Mr. Manzinger joined the Hillman Company in Pittsburgh. The Hillman Company is a broadly diversified investment holding company that manages the investment assets of the Hillman family and Hillman foundations. Hillman invests with partners around the world in private equity, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds, and long-only equity funds. Hillman often invests directly in companies alongside their partners.
Mr. Manzinger was elected to the board of directors of the Hillman Company in 2000 and appointed president and chief executive officer in 2004. He has served on several boards of public and private companies in the past.
Mr. Manzinger served one term on the board of directors of the Foundation for IUP. In 2006, he completed ten years of service and retired as chairman of the board of Pittsburgh Vision Services, a nonprofit organization providing comprehensive services for the blind. Mr. Manzinger is currently on the board of trustees for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. He has also served two terms on the board of directors of the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Manzinger and his wife, Cheri, have three children, Joseph, Michael and Sarah.
