In 2000, Phelps graduated
from the Eberly College of Business with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Management Information Systems from IUP.
He began his career working in
the Information Systems department with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers as an IT network assistant. Phelps then returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh to
work for the Steelers.
Phelps has worked for the
Steelers in some capacity for more than 20 years, starting in high school as a
ball boy with the team. He is currently the director of Information Systems and
manages the IT infrastructure and systems for both the Steelers UPMC Sports
Performance Complex and Heinz Field. He is responsible for setting IT
strategies and ensuring alignment with business initiatives throughout the
organization, which includes working with various departments and delivering
solid IT systems that meet or exceed those needs. Additional responsibilities
include administrative and budgetary concerns for the department.
Phelps is also a member of IUP’s Career
and Professional Development Advisory Board, and he is a recurring member of
the Governing Body of Pittsburgh’s CIO Executive Summit.
Phelps is married and has three
children. The Phelps live in Harmony, Pa.
