Admission Requirements for the Art Education Track, Art, MA

  • A professor points out something on a painting a student is working on as they both stand near the easel.

Individuals seeking admission to graduate study within the Department of Art must meet the general admission standards and adhere to academic policies established by the School of Graduate Studies and Research at IUP.

These specific policies of the School of Graduate Studies and Research are described in the Graduate Catalog.

An applicant must either be a graduate of an accredited BSEd in Art Education or equivalent degree program or be judged to possess the necessary prerequisite studio proficiency. Admission into the MA in Art, Art Education Track of the Department of Art is based on the nature, extent, and quality of preparation in studio, art teaching, contemporary art theory, and other academic subjects. If an applicant is deemed to be deficient in any of these particular areas, the graduate committee may require satisfactory completion of certain undergraduate courses.

For inquiries about the graduate art program and to schedule a visit, please contact the Department of Art graduate coordinator Susan Palmisano at palmisan@iup.edu.

All application information can be requested by visiting Graduate Admissions. You may also contact the School of Graduate Studies and Research by email at graduate-admissions@iup.edu or by calling 724-357-2222.
