• AngelaMajor: I plan to major in accounting starting in 2015.

    Hometown: Mars, Pennsylvania

Ultimate Aspiration: To receive my Masters in Accounting within five years of college and use my degree to explore all paths that the accounting profession has to offer.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After I graduate high school, I plan to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and major in accounting. I also plan to graduate college early since I will be entering college nine credits shy of enrolling as a sophomore. I will be able to graduate early because I had to the opportunity take courses at IUP through the dual enrollment program starting the summer after my junior year of high school.

We want to know about some of the interesting things you do-in class, for extra and co-curricular activities, in social and volunteer situations.

For the past five years I have played volleyball for my school and a travel team each year. I have also served on the class council, student council, FBLA, Team Inspire, and NHS during all of my high school years and plan to continue to during my senior year. I have also been actively involved in the Relay for Life for a total of seven years. I started as a participant at the Norwin Relay for Life when I was ten years old on a team that my church had formed and continued to participate on that team for three more years. When I turned 13, my team captain stepped down and appointed me to be the new captain of the team. I participated as the team captain for my church at the Norwin Relay for Life for two more years and also picked up a committee position. The committee at each Relay for Life is the backbone of the event. They coordinate and are in charge of everything that happens during the entire year and the 24 hour event that aims to do everything it can to fight back against cancer.

I enjoy participating in the Relay for Life because it is very close to my heart to fight back against cancer since I know way too many close friends and family members who have lost their battle. I feel that it is my job to do everything that I can to volunteer and fundraise to the American Cancer Society so that one day we will live in a cancer free world.

Please tell us about any awards or scholarships you've received.

I have received an award for high honor roll every year in high school, an Academic Excellence Award my junior year of high school, lettered in Varsity Volleyball for three years, and have received many awards through the work I have done for the Relay for Life.

If you were asked to recommend IUP to a friend, what would you say?

I would say that they have great programs in all of the majors that they offer and have a high success rate after graduation. The campus is gorgeous and just the right size. They also offer many opportunities to succeed and get ahead even before you enroll. Once you are accepted, you will have hundreds of activities to choose from to participate in and are guaranteed to enjoy every minute of your college experience at IUP. I have heard nothing but good things from every person that I have talked to that went to IUP.
