The Writing Center - Eicher Hall

Eicher HallThe Writing Center’s main location is 218 Eicher Hall, located on Grant Street between Wallwork Hall and the smokestacks. Students may use the Writing Center’s quiet, comfortable space to work on class assignments or meet with a tutor.

The lab is equipped with computers that run the full Microsoft Office suite, a printer, and a small library of reference books. Unless otherwise noted, the Writing Center is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Jess TutoringThis location is staffed by trained peer tutors who can help with class assignments or presentations and out-of-class writing such as cover letters and scholarship applications. Tutors will work individually with you at any point in the writing process, from brainstorming to revising. Though they are happy to provide strategies for revising papers, tutors do not write, edit or grade papers.

No appointments are needed to visit the Writing Center in Eicher Halljust walk in. At your request, your tutor will let your professor know that you visited the Writing Center.

The Writing Center - Library Satellite

Library SatelliteThe Writing Center’s Library Satellite is available on the first floor of Stapleton Library behind the reference desk. Head toward the back wall of the library and look for the Writing Center signs near the green booths.

Two trained Writing Center peer tutors are available in these booths Monday through Thursday 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Tutors at this location have access to laptops with Internet access and can help students with electronic or hard copies of their work just like the Writing Center in Eicher Hall. Students who wish to use a computer or printer can do this elsewhere in the library or bring a laptop.

No appointments are needed to visit the Writing Center’s Library Satellite; you can j ust walk in. At your request, your tutor will let your professor know that you visited the Writing Center.

The Online Writing Center

Tori tutoringThe Online Writing Center is available for IUP students who are studying off campus or would like to meet with a trained peer tutor at a time when the physical locations are closed or busy. We use an online appointment calendar to schedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance.

During the session, you will share your screen with the tutor through WebEx, a web-based conferencing program. You can discuss your paper live with the tutor using your computer’s microphone and speakers.

Please note: Online appointments are conducted no sooner than 24 hours after the time that you schedule. If you need help sooner, stop by the Writing Center in Eicher Hall or Stapleton Library. No appointment is needed for walk-ins.
