Wellness Works is a campus wellness program for faculty and staff members. The mission of the Wellness Works program is to help IUP employees and their families improve their quality of life by providing information on health and wellness and sponsoring health and wellness activities and programs.
Faculty, managers, SPFPA, OPEIU, and coaches and their covered spouse/same-sex domestic partner who are enrolled in the Highmark PPO or Indemnity plan can also earn Healthy U Points through participation in certain campus and community wellness programs.

Join Diane Wagoner and the Department of Food and Nutrition’s dietetic interns to learn about healthy cooking and healthy eating. Each session features a cooking demonstration, samples, and free recipes. All sessions are free and will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Ackerman Hall, Room 5.

The casserole has come a long way from cream of mushroom soup and onion straws. This dish can be a healthy, appealing, and complete meal in one dish that the whole family will love (especially the one in charge of cleaning the dishes). Casseroles are an economical way to stretch groceries and leftovers. They are easy and forgiving. They require no special cooking knowledge and are completely adaptable.

Salads and diets have always had a delicious partnership, but salads are healthful and satisfying even if you are not watching your waistline. This collection of delicious salad recipes includes hearty main-dish salads that help you fell full as well as lighter salads to serve as a side dish or appetizer.
Session 3: “20 Minute Meals” — Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Putting a satisfying dinner on the table doesn’t have to take all day or even more than a half an hour. No one wants to come home after a long day at work and slave in the kitchen all night. This collection of delicious dishes keeps things simple in 20 minutes or less.

The “Maintain Your Mind” newsletter campaign is an interactive six-week health education campaign to empower individuals to take steps to preserve and promote brain health across the lifespan. Participants will learn about “brain basics,” explore the lifestyle factors that contribute to maintaining a sharp, active, and optimally functioning mind, and discover how to integrate brain boosting activities into their daily routine. “Maintain Your Mind” includes six informative, engaging, and fun electronic newsletters. Each newsletter includes weekly headlines, take-action messages, brain facts, lifestyle improvement strategies, brain challenges, fun mind games, daily vitamins for the brain, and other fundamentals of brain health.

The “Color Your Plate” newsletter campaign is a six-week nutrition newsletter campaign designed to help individuals improve and increase the quantity and variety of their fruit and vegetable consumption through education, awareness, and behavior change. Each newsletter includes recipes and tips for adding and enjoying more fruits and vegetables in your diet. This program was previously offered during the 2010 Spring semester.

The Breathing Easier Smoking Cessation program is a free six-session, five-week, tobacco cessation program sponsored by the Open Door for anyone interested in quitting tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipe, smokeless, chew). The program is designed to help adults to learn how to quit tobacco with a personalized quit plan. The program is free. Call the Open Door at (724) 465-2605; press 7. Classes run year-round. 25 Healthy U points can be earned by participating in this program. Contact the Office of Human Resources for information on how to record your points.

The following Highmark programs are offered periodically through IRMC’s Institute for Healthy Living:

- HOPE (Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis): 25 Healthy U points
- Personal Nutrition Coaching: 25 Healthy U points
