IUP welcomes transfer students.

We review each application on an individual basis and make the decision we believe will best serve that student.

Decisions are based primarily on academic preparation and performance. Recommendations, activities, and the personal essay are factored in, but these have a greater impact for a student who is considered borderline in eligibility.

In addition, our admissions decision considers other evidence of student performance and the ability to be a successful college student.

Course Work

If you’re transferring from another four-year institution, a good first step is to explore the Online Transfer Equivalency Audit System to see how your course work fits into requirements for your major at IUP.

Also helpful: Request a pre-evaluation of your transfer credits.

Grade Point Average

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale from all postsecondary institutions attended is required. If you’ve attended more than one school, we’ll calculate a combined cumulative GPA from all schools.

If you apply to IUP before completing your first semester at another institution, your admission decision may be based on high school information, pending receipt of your final college transcript at the completion of the semester.

Major-Specific Requirement

Some departments require transfer students to meet major-specific admission requirements in addition to general university admission requirements. See Special Requirements for Transfer Students in Specific Majors.

There is no language requirement for admission. However, some departments have a language requirement for graduating from the university.
