What You'll Do
Anthropologists uncover how people have formed cultures, built cities, and created languages. They also study biological diversity. As a Social Science Education major with an Anthropology concentration at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you’ll explore Anthropology while studying to become a social studies teacher.
One area of your education will be studying anthropology and archaeology, while the other area will be developing the skills you’ll need to be a teacher. You’ll also take history, cultural geography, and government classes to prepare you to teach social studies.
Some of the anthropology courses open to students in this major include biological anthropology, basic archaeology, language and culture, cultural area study of China, Native Americans, cultural area study of Africa, and world archaeology.
To give you a well-rounded background for the field of education, you’ll take classes such as school law and educational psychology. By taking part in IUP’s extensive student teaching program, you will gain the hands-on experience you’ll need for your career. Indiana University of Pennsylvania has earned a reputation for outstanding teacher education.
