What You'll Do
Speakers of two languages appreciate the value of two separate ways of approaching things. As a French Education major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you’ll appreciate the value of two separate ways of approaching your education. On one path, you will gain the skills you’ll need to be a teacher. On the other, you’ll develop expertise in the French language.
IUP has earned a reputation for excellence in teacher education and offers an outstanding student teaching program. Through your education courses, you’ll cover a variety of topics, including school law, teaching methods, and educational psychology.
Through your French major, you will acquire proficiency in all phases of the French language and will explore the history, culture, and literature of French-speaking countries. As a future teacher, you will find the close supervision and advanced methodology offered by the department a distinct asset.
French Education majors are encouraged to study overseas. Through IUP’s study abroad center in Nancy, France, students can choose a full-year, single-semester, or six-week summer program.
What You'll Become
The Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in French Education program prepares you to teach French to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. As a teacher, you’ll experience the satisfaction that comes from watching students use what they’ve learned. You’ll be giving your students valuable skills they can take with them as they go out into the world.
Employment of school teachers is expected to grow by 12 percent between 2006 and 2016, although some areas of the country are expected to have great increases than others. This is expected to create 479,000 additional teacher positions, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
