Meggie using GPR

I’ve begun working with the local geophysics firm I learned about during the archaeology conference.

We’ve had jobs in Newark, N.J., and Manhattan, N.Y., so far, and I’ve been using the GPR, EM31 (an electromagnetic device), and the magnetometer. The first job I did was in Newark. A children’s garden was being built across the street from an elementary school, and our goal was to find any tanks that could disrupt the project.

We thought the tank would either be under the sidewalk or road or in the back of the lot, as a house used to be in the center, and there wouldn’t be a tank right underneath a house. Once we laid out our grid and started the GPR, we immediately noticed the tank! I’ve started processing data, and I’m learning new software. I’ll be going back to school with much more knowledge to share.
