As a freshman, I was really nervous and quiet and was comfortable being invisible.
Field school [required for all Archaeology Track students] really got me out of that, and I was finally back to being my old self—no longer invisible or intimidated. We were at the Johnston site, the site of a Late Prehistoric village near Blairsville, Pa. You learn excavation techniques and how to handle excavated artifacts. After six weeks with the same people in the same pit—you really become a family. It’s a great way to meet the people you’ll have classes with and possibly be working with down the road.
