Fell in Love with IUP

February 26, 2009

When I came to visit IUP, I fell in love with the Oak Grove.

I wanted to spend every day out there. To me as an incoming freshman, it felt like what a college should feel like. On that visit, my mom and I talked with Dr. Phil [Anthropology professor Phillip Neusius]. He introduced me to the earthen mounds and the mound builders. And when you drive around Ohio or in the South, you’ll see these mounds that the American Indians used to build for burial, residential, or ceremonial purposes. That—learning things you can see and identify with—made me fall in love with the department. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
