What You’ll Do
Maintaining a smooth-running computer network is vital in the business world. As a Management Information Systems major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you’ll learn both the technical and business sides of information technology. You’ll graduate with the skills you’ll need for careers in computer-based information systems in organizational environments.
Through the technical side of your courses, you’ll have the chance to study networking, cybersecurity, microprocessor technology, the mainframe environment, client server applications, and user/manager involvement in the global business environment. Courses also cover traditional concepts such as programming, analysis and design, database development, various architectures, and application development.
Business courses cover issues such as profitability, budgeting, collaboration, and project management. As a Management Information Systems major, you’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with state-of-the-art technology and gain real-world experience collaborating with organizations.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems prepares students
to assist and lead in the application of current and emerging information technology (IT), to create strategic and competitive advantages, and to streamline and improve operations. Those in this profession work with business leaders to determine and carry out technical and business goals.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer systems analysts are expected to be in high demand through 2016. The labor report notes that employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to increase 16 percent from 2006 to 2016, which is faster than average growth. Businesses are expected to install sophisticated computer networks and set up more complex intranets and websites in an effort to remain competitive, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
