Competition moves them.

Alyssa Shubra and Emily Shubra, twins in most senses, both love a challenge. As a doubles team, the sisters earned a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferences tennis tournament. In their academic life, they are both studying accounting as members of the Business Honors Program and are both students in IUP’s Robert E. Cook Honors College.

Alyssa says she “likes being challenged,” which is evident with her membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honors society, and the Honors Connection Club. Like her sister, Emily is also a member of BGS, as well as the National Honors Society.

Both sisters have taken advantage of IUP’s summer study abroad program by taking classes at Oxford University in England.

“I recommend IUP. It’s a great school,” said Alyssa. “I love that it is medium size, but class sizes are small. I also give praise to the Robert E. Cook Honors College. The classes are very challenging and have enhanced my writing and critical thinking abilities. I also like that Whitmyre Hall (where Honors College students live) feels like home. There is a strong sense of community and respect. When you walk into the lobby, you are always greeted by friendly faces.”

“I discovered once I arrived on campus how different college life is from high school,” said Emily. “Through living in the residence halls, I’ve met a lot of really great people and have made some lasting friendships.”
