Donovan Daniels talks about his experiences at IUP. 2:08, MB

Donovan Daniel chose IUP because of the preprofessional program in Physical Therapy offered by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, but he has found his niche in the Health and Physical Education Department’s Exercise Science program.

“Exercise science is my passion. I feel the program has some of the greatest professors at IUP,” Donovan said. “They are leaders in their respective fields and truly love what they do. All the Exercise Science professors, [such as] Dr. [Madeline] Bayles, have extensive experience and connection in the field of exercise physiology and strive to do their best to help their students share in the success they have enjoyed.”

Striving to become a strength or conditioning coach for a collegiate or professional sports team, Donovan spent the summer as a volunteer strength coach for IUP’s football team. He also trained to become a yoga instructor and is adding that to his list of classes to teach other students. He already teaches recreational aerobics classes at the Hadley Union Building. During the school year, he has served as a community assistant in one of IUP’s new residential suites buildings.

A Philadelphia native who received a Core Philly Scholarship, Donovan said he has grown to feel as if Indiana and IUP are home.

“Once I arrived on campus I fell in love with the warmth and buzzing activity the campus provides,” he said. “Though Indiana is a small county with a pace that cannot compare to Philadelphia, it has an obvious vibe of growth and change.”
