Indiana University of Pennsylvania is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a doctoral/research institution.
With its original 1875 building still standing at the heart of its main campus, IUP has a long tradition of academic excellence. It is the only member institution of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education that offers doctoral degrees.
IUP holds universitywide regional accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Individual programs have also earned special accreditation or national recognition.
