Requirements

Students seeking admission to graduate studies at IUP must meet the following criteria:

  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Have a minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 2.4 (on a 4.0 scale) if the bachelor’s degree was earned more than five years ago
  • Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.6 (on a 4.0 scale) if the bachelor’s degree was earned five or fewer years ago

Applicants who do not meet the undergraduate GPA criteria must submit a Miller Analogies Test (MAT) score of at least 395.

Note: Some programs may require a higher cumulative GPA than described above.

Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Specific information about test registration and availability can be obtained from the Career Development Center, 302 Pratt Hall, 724-357-4994. You should request that your test scores be sent to the School of Graduate Studies and Research at IUP.

Some departments require the submission of Graduate Record Examination scores or Graduate Management Admission Test scores.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The following departments require the submission of official GRE scores (general test) prior to admission:

  • Administration and Leadership Studies (Ph.D.)
  • Applied Archaeology
  • Business Workforce Development (must provide either GRE or GMAT scores)
  • Criminology (Ph.D.)
  • Educational Psychology (M.Ed.) and certification
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Geography
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Psychology (Psy.D.)
  • School Psychology (D.Ed.)
  • Sociology
  • Speech-Language Pathology (Passing Praxis I scores may be submitted in lieu of GRE scores)

In addition to the general test, the Clinical Psychology program requires the psychology subject test.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) 

Applicants to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Executive MBA program are required to submit GMAT scores prior to admission as part of their application process. The Business Workforce Development program requires applicants to sbumit GMAT or GRE scores. For information about taking the GMAT, please visit the official GMAT website.

Praxis II 

Applicants to the School Psychology (D.Ed.) post-certification program must submit Praxis II scores as part of their application process.
