2012–2013 IUP Alumni Board of Directors Officers

Mr. Michael Staub ’80, President
A 1980 graduate of IUP, Mike Staub earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and holds a master’s degree in Administration of Justice from Shippensburg University. In 2002 Mike was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Mike is the deputy chief of the Bureau of Investigative Services within the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Criminal Law Division. He supervises the following units within his bureau: Technical Services; Computer Forensics; Intelligence; Planning, Research, and Training; Firearms/Special Operations; Education and Outreach; and Executive Protection. He has worked for the Office of Attorney General since 1980, the first 27 years with the Environmental Crimes Section.
Additionally, Mike shares his extensive knowledge as an adjunct professor for York College of Pennsylvania and Elizabethtown College.
Mike was appointed to the IUP Alumni Association board of directors in 2005. He is currently the board's president, having previously served as vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Mike also serves on the Finance, Government Relations, Nominating, and Strategic Planning committees. In addition to attending many on-campus activities like Homecoming, Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala, Mike is actively involved with IUP events in the Harrisburg area and volunteers for the IUP Office of Admissions at regional College Fairs.
Mike and his wife, Gayle Leader, live in Camp Hill, Pa.

Ms. Sandra Koeppl Barsotti ’87, Vice President
In 1987, Sandy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, with a minor in History, and is marketing director for Direct Response Technologies in Pittsburgh.
A member of the association’s board of directors since 2006, Sandy currently serves as vice president, having previously served as secretary. She is the chairperson of the Awards Committee and also serves on the By-Laws, Ad-hoc Committee for Electronic Communications, and Finance committees.
Involved in Pittsburgh alumni functions since the early '90s, Sandy has attended many functions on campus, including the Pioneer and 50th Anniversary Reunions, Commencement, Homecoming, and the Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala.
Sandy resides in Pittsburgh with her husband, Ron, and their son Greyson.

Mr. Matthew Konetschni ’95, M’98, Secretary
Matt Konetschni earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1995 and a 1998 master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from IUP. He currently serves as director of Educational Programs for the Society for Human Resource Management, for which he is responsible for ongoing curriculum development for seminars, certification preparation programs, and corporate training engagements. In 2001 he was recognized by the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology as a Young Alumni Award recipient.
A 2005 appointee to the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors, Matt currently serves as secretary, having previously served as treasurer. He is the chairperson of the Strategic Planning Committee, as well as a member of the By-Laws and Finance committees. Matt is often seen at IUP events held in the Washington, D.C., area, attends on-campus events including Homecoming and the Distinguished Alumni Awards gala.
He resides in Alexandria, Va., with his wife, Lynn, and son, Cooper.

Mr. Phillip Carrai ’83, Treasurer
In 1983, Phil Carrai graduated from IUP with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems and Accounting. He later earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1989. Eberly College of Business and Information Technology recognized Phil for his entrepreneurship and inducted him in the Eberly Alumni Hall of Fame.
He currently serves as president of Technology and Training Solutions for Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, Inc. Kratos Defense and Security Solutions provides mission-critical engineering, IT services, strategic communications, and war fighter solutions for the U.S. federal government and for state and local agencies. In his role, Phil is responsible for all business strategy and profit and loss of the operational unit, as well as overseeing mergers and acquisitions.
A member of the IUP Alumni Association board of directors since 2008, Phil is currently the board's treasurer. He also serves on the Finance Committee. Phil regularly attends Homecoming and the Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala, as well as, IUP events in the D.C. area.
He and his wife, Angela, live in Vienna, Va., with their children, Matthew, Susan, Hannah, and Rebekah.
Directors
Mr. Tim Burns '90
A 1990 graduate of IUP, Tim Burns earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He went on to found a pharmacy software company that ultimately employed over 400 people when it was sold to a public company. He is now the president of ElecTekUSA, a political campaign software company. Tim also is on the board of directors of CASANA, a national organization dedicated to helping children with a rare neurological disorder called Apraxia. Over the years, Tim has been involved in a number of other nonprofit projects, including local flood relief efforts as well as being part of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. In 2010, Tim received the Jefferson Award for community service for his work with special-needs children.
Tim has been active in college activities, attending Homecoming games and events in the Pittsburgh area. He lives in Eighty Four, Pa., and has two sons, Brock and Trent.
Mr. Thomas Costello ’88
With his Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems, Tom Costello is the founder and CEO of UpStreme, Inc.—a Philadelphia area-based business and technology management consulting firm specializing in enterprise strategy, software logistics, and executive education. He has advised both private and public sector organizations ranging from the U.S. Department of State and established top Fortune 500 organizations to early-stage/prefunded startups.
He joined the Alumni Association’s board of directors in 2007 and currently serves on the board’s Ad-hoc Committee for Electronic Communications. He volunteers much of his time with many of IUP’s Philadelphia-area functions, and attends many social, educational, and sports-related events on campus, as well. Additionally, Tom is a member of the Eberly College of Business Advisory Council and the IUP Alumni Admissions Recruiting team. He served as an 2009 Executive in Residence for Eberly, and was awarded Wall of Distinction honors by the Eberly College of Business.
Tom and family reside in West Chester, Pa.
Ms. Sandra Hoover Diefenderfer ’67
Sandra Diefenderfer graduated in 1967 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She received a Master of Education degree specializing in Learning Disabilities from the University of Maryland in 1978.
Sandy taught elementary education and special education in both the Prince George’s County and Montgomery County Maryland school districts. After a long career in teaching, Sandra retired and became a volunteer in the development office for the National Capitol Children’s Hospital. She also tutored inner city children for the I Have a Dream Foundation.
Sandy joined the IUP Alumni Association board of directors in 2004 and serves as a member of the Finance and Nominating committees. In addition to attending many on-campus events, she also represents IUP at many social and networking events in the D.C. area.
Sandy lives in Great Falls, Virginia, with her husband, Bill.
Mr. Micah Johnson ’85
Micah Johnson attended IUP in the College of Education and Educational Technology bachelor’s degree program in Communications Media. He is the CEO of Media Stars Worldwide, which recruits and represents talent for major broadcast and cable networks and reality TV shows. Previously, he was an anchor/correspondent at CNN and NBC. He’s the recipient of numerous Emmy awards and nominations and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award.
Micah just began his term as a member of the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors. He is a 1989 recipient of the IUP Distinguished Alumni award and is actively involved in alumni events in the Phoenix area.
Micah lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Honolulu.
Mr. Ward S. Johnson '80
Ward Johnson is a 1980 graduate of the College of Health and Human Services, is a 1984 graduate of Temple University’s Fox School of Business (MBA), and is currently a senior vice president for Wells Fargo and is based in the Philadelphia area. In his role at Wells Fargo, Ward is responsible for the management of the segment of Wells Fargo’s Global Financial Institutions business that serves the banking, investment, and risk management needs of depository institutions headquartered throughout the northeastern United States.
Ward and his family have been active members of the IUP family for many years. In the 1980s, Sally Johnson Hall was dedicated in memory of Ward’s grandmother, a former trustee of IUP and Ward’s father, David served as a longtime trustee and dedicated volunteer.
Ward resides in Bryn Mawr with his wife Elaine, a 1986 IUP graduate, and two teenage daughters.
Ms. Florence J. Mauchant M'85
Florence Mauchant earned an MBA from IUP in 1985 after earning an MBA from the Institute Commercial de Nancy. She credits her successful banking career to her time at IUP, which has compelled her to make a commitment of service to her alma mater. She launched her career at Generale Bank. Today, she is managing director at HT Capital Advisors. Florence is active in New York City, where she works to build networking opportunities for alumni working in and around the city.
Mr. John Ninosky '93
John Ninosky graduated from IUP in 1993 with a criminology degree and earned his juris doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law in 1996. John is a shareholder with the law offices of Johnson Duffie in Harrisburg and is a trial lawyer whose practice involves primarily the defense of health care providers and institutions in civil litigation throughout Pennsylvania's county and federal courts. He has been recognized as a Rising Star in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers in 2010 and 2011 and serves as the cochair of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute's Professional Liability Committee.
John was appointed to the IUP Alumni Association board of directors in 2012. He has been a member of the Governmental Relations Committee and an active volunteer for admissions events in Harrisburg.
He resides in Harrisburg with his wife Tammy Beale Ninosky ’93 and their children, Kristen and Johnny.
The Honorable David Reed ’00
Dave Reed graduated from the Robert E. Cook Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics in 2000. As a javelin thrower for the IUP’s track and field team, Dave was named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
He is currently serving his fourth term representing Pennsylvania’s 62nd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Dave focuses on legislation aimed at spurring economic growth and creating jobs in Pennsylvania.
He became a member of the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors in 2006 and is a member of the Strategic Planning and Government Relations committees. In addition, Dave represents IUP’s interests in Harrisburg as a state representative, as well as serving on a number of advisory boards through the university. He often speaks to classes and regularly employs interns from IUP who work in his offices.
He and his wife, Heather, live in Indiana, Pa., with their three children.
Mr. Ryan Renz ’05
A graduate of the Eberly College of Business, Ryan Renz earned an Accounting degree from IUP in 2005. As a student, he was an active member of the IUP Student Alumni Association, better known as the IUP Ambassadors.
In his professional life, Ryan is a staff accountant for Clay & Gascoine LLC.
Ryan joined the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors in 2009 and serves on the Strategic Planning committee. As a local member of the board of directors, Ryan is called upon to represent the Alumni Association at many on-campus events. Additionally, he serves the IUP Alumni Association’s regional representative for Indiana County.
Ryan is an active supporter of the Crimson Hawks and attends many of the university’s sporting events. He currently lives in Indiana, Pa.
Ms. Elaine Tselepis Sheetz ’71
Elaine Tselepis Sheetz graduated from IUP in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, having completed majors in both Piano and Harpsichord and also a minor in Voice.
Throughout her life and through various professional positions, Elaine has been a private piano teacher since graduation. She published a number of her own compositions, and is currently working on a piano method for beginning students. Usually the teacher, Elaine is once again an apprentice, as she’s studying jazz piano with a musician who studied under Duke Ellington. Elaine is also busy composing a film score, which will be entered in the Banff Mountain Film Festival this fall.
In addition to her love of music, Elaine and her partner, Francesco, own Cesco Trattoria, a renowned Italian restaurant specializing in homemade Tuscan cooking, located in Bethesda, Md.
Elaine has been a member of the IUP Alumni Association board of directors since 2007 and serves on the By-Laws committee. She attends many of the music-related activities on and off campus, including IUP Plays Pittsburgh (held at Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh) and the International Festival of Women Composers (held at IUP). In addition, she can be seen at many of the IUP networking events in the D.C. area and regularly attends Homecoming and the Distinguished Alumni Awards gala.
Elaine lives in Great Falls, Va.
Ms. Pamela Sledge-Coley ’97
Pam Sledge-Coley graduated magna cum laude from IUP in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and a minor in Accounting. She obtained an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2001.
Currently, Pam is employed by ExxonMobil, where she is a product sales manager and is responsible for contract management and product sales, as well as managing a variety of assignments across multiple functional areas.
She was appointed to the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors in 2007 and serves on the board’s Ad-hoc Committee for Electronic Communications. At IUP, Pam was a charter member of the Rho Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and continues to support that organization. She’s been a guest speaker in the Eberly College of Business, and attends many of the Houston-area networking events.
Pam resides in the Houston area with her husband, Derick.
Dr. Rebecca Pounds Szwalek ’01
Dr. Rebecca Pounds is a 2001 graduate of IUP’s Robert E. Cook Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science/Pre-dental. Additionally, she is a 2004 graduate of the University of Maryland’s Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Becky is dentist and owner of Rebecca L. Pounds DDS LLC, located in Pittsburgh.
She is a 2010 appointee to the IUP Alumni Association’s board of directors. Active with other regional alumni, Becky assists with many social and networking events in the Pittsburgh region. In addition, she serves on the Strategic Planning committee. A lifelong fan of IUP sports, Becky is often found at various sporting events on campus.
At IUP, Becky was a member of both the track and field and cross country teams.
Becky and her husband Damian Szwalek reside in Pittsburgh.
