The program leading to a Master of Science degree in nursing is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). It is designed to prepare the graduate for an advanced-practice nursing role as a nurse administrator or a nurse educator and serves as a foundation for doctoral study.


  • Take your courses part-time, evenings from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and online.
  • Learn in a cohort format, and build a supportive professional and academic network by moving through your sequence of classes as a group.
  • Complete your program in two years.

Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission by IUP’s Department of Nursing, applicants must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (may be in a discipline other than Nursing) and successful completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • A minimum QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale if the bachelor’s degree is completed within five years of the application date. If the bachelor’s degree is older than five years, the minimum QPA is 2.6 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate-level Statistics course.


Applications are being accepted for Fall admission consideration. Submit the following to IUP’s School of Graduate Studies and Research:

  • Application form: Apply online.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Signed and dated statement of career and academic goals
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • $50 nonrefundable application fee.

GRE scores are not required.
