Trisha

Bright Lights, Caring Heart

Theater alumna Trisha Rae Stahl ’98 plays Millie Rose in Glee. She made her debut in season four of the hit TV series in September 2012.

“At IUP, we were very close with the professors, spending lots of time with them in the theater and in their homes. It was a close-knit family, but they did demand professionalism.”

As a student, Stahl played a scholar researching hermits in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia; a Norse mythic being in Christopher Marlowe’s Faustus, as adapted by director Larry West; and roles in other Theater-by-the-Grove productions of the Department of Theater and Dance.

She fondly remembers spending “many hours in Waller Hall, rehearsing into the wee hours” and says Waller was her home away from home.

“We were very close with the professors,” she says, “spending lots of time with them in the theater and in their homes. It was a close-knit family, but they demanded professionalism.”

After graduating, Stahl moved to Los Angeles. Since then, she’s worked in independent films, TV, and web TV, with bit parts on ER and other shows and roles in horror genre and other movies. She was thrilled to get an audition for Glee and says she still can’t believe she landed the recurring role.

Stahl also took a job working with children with special needs and “fell in love with teaching” these students, who “bring a lot of brightness into a lot of people’s lives.”

She adopted a son with special needs and earned her master’s degree in special education from National University in Sherman Oaks, Calif. She plans to continue to work with children with special needs and at some point may start her own program, possibly incorporating acting.
