In case of inclement weather on test day, please tune in to local media (radio and television) to determine whether or not the test has been canceled. Campus police (724-357-2141) will also be notified of any cancellations. If testing is canceled, the testing program will contact you to schedule a make-up test date.

University Testing Services is responsible for administering standardized testing at IUP. Both paper and pencil examinations and computer-based exams are offered.

The following is a list of tests administered: Praxis Series Exams, GRE, MAT, TOEFL, CLEP, FLCT, GMAT, ACSM, PAPA and PECT. Current test dates and testing registration instructions may be obtained below.

If you are taking an Educational Testing Service (ETS) exam in the computer-based format (Praxis II, GRE General Test, TOEFL), your test will be in Room 311 Pratt Hall.

If you are taking a PearsonVUE computer-based exam (PAPA, PECT, GMAT, etc.), your test will be in Room 107 Pratt Hall.

IUP 2012–2013 IUP Testing Calendar*

*Please note: The Testing Center operates under limited hours during the summer. For Summer 2013, we will only be able to offer GRE, Praxis, CLEP, and MAT from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Monday, June 10
  • Tuesday, June 11
  • Monday, June 17
  • Tuesday, June 18
  • Monday, June 24
  • Tuesday, June 25

These are the only dates when testing will be offered during the summer sessions.

Due to construction, we will be unable to administer PAPA, PECT, GMAT, ACSM and all other PearsonVUE tests during the summer. We will resume normal hours at the start of the Fall semester.

ACSM
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) credentialing is the most respected in the health and fitness industry.
ACT
Assesses high school students’ general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.
CLEP
Helps students earn credit for what they already know, regardless of how that knowledge was acquired.
FLCT
The Foreign Language Competency Test satisfies the language requirement for the graduate program in literature at IUP.
GMAT
Assists graduate schools in assessing the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management.
GRE
Used for admission to many graduate programs.
LSAT
Standardized test required for admission to most law schools.
MAT
Assesses your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts. It is a computer-based test used for graduate admissions.
Praxis
Provides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process.
TOEFL
Evaluates the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English.
PAPA (Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment)
Replaces Praxis I for reading, mathematics, and writing skills for all teacher candidates.
PECT (Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests)
The PECT replaces Praxis II tests for PreK-4, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education, 7-12.
