Participating in the Disney College Program was an absolutely amazing experience! Arriving in Florida, knowing no one except some family in the area, moving in with complete strangers, developing a professional connection, going through the Disney Training Program, and beginning to work for a huge company was a life-changing experience. I gained communication skills, personal interaction skills, professional networking skills, and was forced to become much more independent simply by participating in the Disney College Program.

I worked at the All Star Resort in the gift shops there. The All Star Resort has three check-in locations—Music, Movies, and Sports, each with a gift shop. It is a very large property with a huge amount of guest traffic. I learned how to give outstanding service as quickly as possible without guests feeling as though I was rushing them, which is part of what makes Disney so successful.

Since the College Program, I have interviewed and received two part-time jobs and an internship. During all three of those interviews, Disney was the very first thing I was asked about. This has been a huge professional step for me, and I look forward to possibly working for Disney again in the future! I currently help represent the Disney College Program on IUP’s campus, and encourage students to attend a presentation about the program, answer questions, and hopefully get them to apply.

—Ben Cavallaro, IUP Alumni and DCP Participant

Students, after acceptance, may embark on a semester-long or a full academic year experience in which they will be employed in an entry-level position at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, or the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. While most Disney College Program participants (other than some majors such as Hospitality Management, and only then with approval from their department) do not earn actual credits, they can take courses at Disney that transfer as electives. Please read the IUP Requirements for additional details.

The Disney College Program campus representatives of IUP are your direct link to the Walt Disney Company. Each cast member has participated in the program in the past and has a wealth of knowledge to share with you. For additional information, please contact the Career Development and Professional Development Center at 724-357-2235.

If you are accepted into the Disney College Program, you must make an appointment to meet with the program coordinator, Jan Shellenbarger. She can be reached at jans@iup.edu.
