The Center for Teaching Excellence is dedicated to helping faculty achieve excellence in their teaching by providing them with opportunities for professional and personal growth.
Among other things, excellent teaching
- places students at the center of all teaching and learning
- involves students actively in the learning process
- presents knowledge in terms which are meaningful and understandable to students
- challenges students to develop strategies for lifelong learning
- respects and acknowledges student differences
Effective teaching is a reflective process that incorporates critical self-appraisal and hard work.
The Center for Teaching Excellence provides services for the enhancement of teaching, such as:
- workshops and discussions
- new faculty orientation
- faculty consultations
- mentorship opportunities
- books and videotapes on teaching and learning
- teaching portfolio development assistance
- teaching excellence awards
