Programs and Services

  • A professor talks with students.
  • In addition to the meetings and events offered through Reflective Practice, the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) offers a variety of programs. CTE frequently collaborates with other IUP offices such as the Provost’s Office, Student Affairs, and the IUP Libraries to host opportunities for faculty, staff, administrators, and/or students to gather to learn and discuss important topics related to teaching and learning.

Programs include universitywide seminars and workshops, Box Night, Lunch n’ Learn meetings, and Faculty Learning Communities. In addition, each year the CTE coordinates New Faculty Orientation for incoming tenure-track and temporary faculty and teaching associates.

CTE also offers several services to help faculty enhance teaching and learning. These include opportunities for consultation and mentoring. Consultations are confidential. Faculty can stop by or request an appointment for assistance in areas such as:

    • Active learning strategies
    • Balancing teaching, scholarship, and service
    • Classroom management
    • Effective advising
    • Flipped classroom
    • Grading
    • Objectives and learning outcomes
    • Online instruction
    • Peer review of teaching such as syllabi, assignments and materials, and classroom observation
    • Teaching portfolios
    • And more—Just ask!
