Relevant Exposure Through Lecture Series

  • James Lovell

The First Commonwealth Lecture Series, thanks to the generosity of a local business, brings a thought-provoking speaker to campus every fall.

Hearing it live provides first-person exposure to perspectives on national and world events in a way that students and the entire community can’t get on television or through the internet.

Thanks to the generosity of First Commonwealth Financial Corporation, IUP and area residents have enjoyed and learned from speakers in the First Commonwealth Lecture Series.

The series has included an evening with Washington power couple Mary Matalin and James Carville—known for their campaign management and political commentating; award-winning journalist Bob Woodward; and Apollo 13 astronaut James Lovell, shown above.

The lectures take place in the intimate setting of Fisher Auditorium, and they come with no admission fee.
