About Summer Sessions

The IUP Summer Advantage

During summer only, IUP has an open enrollment for undergraduates (which is great for transfer credit) and special admissions categories for graduate students.  You can't beat the advantages:

  • More than five hundred courses are available.
  • Students can pursue subjects of interest they don’t have time to take during the academic year.
  • Summer credits can accelerate programs for early graduation or enable students to reduce their academic-year credit load.
  • Students can earn credit through distance education courses from their home or summer vacation destination.
  • High school students can gain a competitive edge before entering their freshman year.
  • Teachers can earn credits for advanced degrees, certification requirements, or Act 48 requirements.
  • Anyone can improve computer skills with beginning or advanced technology courses.
  • Students can earn a minor or a second major without affecting their primary major.
  • Students can take advantage of opportunities to earn credit in travel study courses in such places as England, France, Mexico, Spain, and Costa Rica.
  • You may enroll in many interesting special topics courses and short-term workshops.
  • Liberal Studies requirements may be completed.
  • The academic atmosphere is personal and friendly.
  • Up to seventeen undergraduate credits can be earned in the summer.
  • IUP students may receive  financial aid to attend Summer Sessions.
  • Most IUP summer classrooms are air-conditioned.
  • Recreational activities, such as swimming, tennis, fitness, picnics, and entertainment events, are available. The Hadley Union Building fitness center offers a wide variety of services and equipment, from standard treadmills and racquetball courts to state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment and golf simulators.
  • Outdoor activities abound in and around Indiana County.
  • Numerous golf courses and state parks are within driving distance, as is Pittsburgh.
