Student Employment Program Policies

    IUP Student Employment resources are provided free of charge to employers and to student job seekers. All hiring and compensation for work performed by student employees is handled directly between the student and the employer. The Student Employment Program does not perform background checks on students applying for jobs, nor on employers posting job opportunities. Employers and students are encouraged to request reference information from each other as needed to establish qualifications, credentials and overall fit between the employer and the student applicant.

    All job listings are posted at the discretion of the Student Employment Program. We will not post jobs that appear to discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, age, national origin, disabled or Vietnam Era veteran status, sexual orientation, disability, or gender. The Student Employment Program also reserves the right to refuse to post jobs that do not support the interests of the university and/or the students.

    The IUP Student Employment Program provides a referral service and makes no particular recommendations regarding employers. We make no representations or guarantees about positions posted by this office. We are not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or any other aspect of off-campus employment. Students are urged to perform due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting private off-campus employment. The Student Employment Program staff members are available for consultation on how to research prospective employers.

    While jobs posted on our website are intended to reach college students, employers must expect that jobs may be viewable by the general public. Even where webpages offer restricted access, job postings may be conveyed by those with access to others without access.

    The following policies are established by the Student Employment Program and its affiliates.

    1. The Student Employment Program (SEP) acts only as an advertising service and makes no particular recommendation regarding employers. We make no guarantees or representations about positions posted by our office. The Student Employment Program is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or other various aspects of employment. Due to the volume of job announcements received by this office, we are unable to research the integrity of each person or business that lists a job with us. We, therefore, urge you to undertake this responsibility.
    2. Off-campus job vacancies are posted for the duration of each semester. Employers are encouraged to notify the SEP if their position is filled so that it can be promptly removed from the vacancy list. At the end of each semester, correspondence will be sent to the employer in order to gather employment information pertaining to the number of IUP students employed, how many weeks employed, how many hours worked per week, and the hourly wage. Because the SEP is provided federal funds to operate the program, documentation is required by the Federal Government supporting that IUP students working off campus earn more money than is provided to facilitate the program. Included with the employer mailing are instructions for reposting a vacancy for the impending semester.Off-campus jobs will be posted once the IUP Career and Professional Development Center verifies that they are legitimate, and not a scam.
    3. On-campus job vacancies are posted for a period of one month. Employers are encouraged to notify the SEP if their position is filled so that it can be promptly removed from the vacancy list. Job postings will expire at the end of one month. At this time, an SEP staff member will contact the departmental office to determine if the job has been filled or if the job vacancy should be extended for an additional month.
