The Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provides diagnostic and treatment services for persons with speech, language, and hearing disabilities. Services include speech-language diagnostic evaluations and therapy, as well as audiological evaluations.
We treat a wide range of disorders in the clinic, including:
- Language delays and disorders
- Articulation and phonological disorders
- Motor speech disorders (apraxia and dysarthria)
- Aphasia (language disorders resulting from a stroke)
- Speech-language disorders secondary to hearing loss, traumatic brain injury, and dementia
- Voice disorders including treatment following laryngectomy
- English language learning and foreign accent modification
- Fluency disorders (stuttering)
- Complex communication disorders requiring methods of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
The clinic serves both the university and the regional community. More than 1,000 persons of all ages are served each year, including persons with disabilities, persons with hearing impairment, and senior citizens. Diagnostic evaluations cost $25; the cost for treatment services is $75 per semester (approximately $3 per session). Clients are served, however, regardless of their ability to pay.
The Speech and Hearing Clinic provides closely supervised practical experience for 125 graduate and undergraduate students. Completion of the required hours of supervised clinical experience is one of several requirements to obtain graduate and undergraduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology at IUP.
