Research and Training Center Projects

  • The Administration and Leadership Studies Research and Training Center projects provide learning opportunities for students, practical experience for faculty, and state and national exposure for IUP.

    Through our network of nonprofit, state, and federal government partners, the Administration and Leadership Studies Research and Training Center (ALS-RTC) has acquired and refined experience and expertise in transportation maintenance, traffic engineering and safety, sustainability, labor, health, welfare, business and industry, higher education, public works, and local and state government operations.

    Research and Training Center Projects

    The ALS-RTC has completed or is currently working on the following projects:

    • The American Public Works Association (APWA) – develop and provide a semi-annual Public Works Institute for Pennsylvania’s 2,600 municipal public works organizations; develop and conduct training and assessment for sustainability
    • The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation – develop and deliver employee safety training; compete for annual highway safety grants; develop and deliver training on road safety audits; conduct a training needs assessment for highway maintenance training; develop and conduct a formal program evaluation for PennDOT training initiatives
    • The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission – develop and deliver a formal maintenance training program from needs assessment to curriculum development and delivery to program evaluation
    • The Department of Labor and Industry – explore training opportunities
    • Collaborate with other IUP departments such as the Center for Highway Safety and the Safety Sciences Department to expand expertise and capacity for larger grants awards
