The President's Commission on the Status of Women at IUP hosts an annual conference focused on the personal and professional development of women. The event is cosponsored by Indiana Regional Medical Center's Spirit of Women.

Women at the 2010 conference 200pxThe sixth annual conference will take place Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Participants may attend for a full day, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or just the morning or afternoon session. Both half-day sessions include lunch and the keynote presentation. The theme for this year's conference is “Women Have Heart,” focusing on women's heart health.

The keynote speaker will be Amy Nartatez Heinl, a mother of three and IUP alumna who, at age 40, survived a potentially fatal heart condition that struck with no warning signs. Learn more about Heinl's story.

The conference will also feature a number of hourlong workshops on diverse topics such as urban gardening, raising your iPhone IQ, mindfulness and meditation, women's self-defense, tai chi, healthy eating, the sandwich generation, office exercise, and financial planning. Cost and Registration

The cost to attend is as follows:

  • IUP employees, full or half day: Free (Cost is paid by division vice president.)
  • Indiana Regional Medical Center employees: $30
  • Spirit of Women members: $30
  • IUP retirees: $30
  • IUP students: $30
  • Other attendees, full day: $50
  • Other attendees, half day: $35

The registration deadline was May 23, 2013.

Vendors

Tables for vendors or others who wish to display information during the conference will be $35 for the general public and free for IUP departments, offices, programs, and services. An additional $25 will be charged for each additional person attending breakfast and lunch.
