About the Crimson Snapshot

  • The need for objective information about a university comes up in many situations and among a variety of audiences. For example:

    • A high school junior just getting started with her college search wants basic information about a university’s tuition, housing, academic programs, class size, and diversity.
    • To complete a grant application, a professor needs the university’s most recent enrollment figures.
    • Responsible to his constituents, a legislator wants to verify that a local university is delivering in terms of learning outcomes, graduation rate, and other measures of success.

The Crimson Snapshot aims to meet needs for this kind of information.

This website is based on the Voluntary System of Accountability, a national system that communicates objective, often statistical, information on the undergraduate student experience of four-year institutions through a common web template called the College Portrait. These five-page portraits offer a quick, easy way for users to draw fair comparisons among participating institutions.

While IUP is a participant in the VSA (see our College Portrait), we wanted to take accountability a step farther through the Crimson Snapshot. The intent is to provide more current information than what is included in the College Portrait and, in some cases, additional information that we believe will be useful to our primary audiences.

If you have suggestions for other information you would like to be included in the Crimson Snapshot, please contact the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment.
