SAHE Admissions Requirements

  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 (3.0 preferred)
  • Graduate School Application Packet to be sent directly to the Graduate School:
    • IUP Graduate Admission application and application fee ( IUP Graduate Admissions)
    • Official college transcript(s)
    • Goal statement
    • Two letters of reference:
      1. One letter from a faculty member to communicate your academic strengths and speak about your ability within the classroom (ideally a faculty member within your major or with whom you have had several classes).
      2. One letter from a professional (preferably within student affairs). Please note, applicants who have been out of school for at least three years may elect to submit two professional letters of reference.
        Electronic submission of the letters is strongly encouraged. To submit electronically, send all reference letters to If your referee prefers to physically mail the recommendation, it should be sent to: IUP School of Graduate Studies and Research, Sutton Hall, Suite 120, 1011 South Drive, Indiana, PA 15705.

  • Additional SAHE department materials to be sent directly to the SAHE Department:
    • Personal Data Form
    • Statement of Interest in Student Affairs (differs from Graduate School Goal Statement): two to three double-spaced pages and should address the following:
      1. What motivated you to pursue a career in student affairs?
      2. What are your professional goals related to student affairs?
      3. How may your personal knowledge, skills, and experiences positively contribute to the IUP SAHE program?

The SAHE department has a rolling admissions process; however, applications should be submitted by January 15 for guaranteed consideration. Late applications may be considered, but those students may have difficulty securing an assistantship after visitation has occurred. At some point, capacity will be reached and admissions will be closed.

Applicants should also keep in mind that all materials must be submitted in order to participate in the department's Visitation and Graduate Assistantship Interview days, scheduled in late February to early March.
