Lon Ferguson is a professor in the Safety Sciences Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Ferguson has both his BS and MS in Safety Sciences from IUP, and his doctorate is from the University of Pittsburgh.
Ferguson is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), a certified safety professional, and a certified fire protection specialist. He served as president of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) in 2014 and was a board member from 2009 to 2015. From 2000 to 2013 he served on the ASSE Educational Standards Committee. In 2002, Ferguson was awarded the William E. Tarrants Safety Educator of the Year Award by the ASSE.
Prior to joining IUP, Ferguson was an assistant professor in the Occupational Safety and Hygiene Management Program at Millersville University and had 12 years’ experience as a safety consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance and the PA/OSHA Consultation Program.
Ferguson frequently teaches undergraduate safety, safety management and fire classes.
