Religious Studies (RLST) offers a scholarly, balanced, objective, nonsectarian, cross-cultural examination of religious traditions.
It covers courses over a great variety of areas on East Asian religions, South Asian religions, Myth and Ritual, Christianity and African religions, Biblical Studies and Near Eastern myth and religion, and Psychology of Religions.
It emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach by:
- requiring a religion-related course outside the RS department
- encouraging the minor or double major, as well as a single major in RLST
Requirements for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in RLST are thirty semester hours (SH):
- 27 SH must be taken from RLST offerings which include certain required courses
- 3 SH must be taken outside of the RLST offerings but in “religion-related” courses
Requirements for the minor in RLST are fifteen SH:
- 15 SH, all of which must be taken from the RLST offerings, which include certain required courses
