About Religious Groups

There are various religious organizations at IUP.

The IUP Interfaith Council is an interdenominational body where people of all faiths will be welcomed and included as equal partners.  All member groups will have an equal right to speak and vote.  The Interfaith Council recognizes and affirms the spiritual part of every human being.

Purposes of the Interfaith Council

  • Speak, where appropriate, as a cohesive body on behalf of human dignity.
  • Publicize the breadth of religious programs that take place at IUP and thereby provide interested students with a greater opportunity to participate in different programs.
  • Enable students of different faiths to participate in programs together and provide information regarding their faith in order to learn from each other and dispel stereotypes.
  • Assist new religious groups in obtaining official recognition as an IUP student organization.
  • Provide a memorial service for deceased students to celebrate their lives and to provide comfort and closure to their friends.
