Undergraduate work timeline

This useful timeline will help you plan courses and other aspects of your undergraduate work. It's based on the experiences and knowledge of psychology students at IUP who've applied and been admitted to graduate school.

Research resources for you

Research is an essential aspect of all levels of education, and for students who aspire to graduate school, research experience can be very helpful in obtaining your goals. However, without guidance it can be a daunting process. These resources will help clarify the research process, be it through literary or empirical means.

Psi Chi Psi Chi: International Honor Society in Psychology

Psi Chiis the international honor society in psychology and was founded in 1929 with the purposes of encouraging scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology.

The IUP chapter of Psi Chiis very active and is an ideal way to gain valuable information about research opportunities, graduate school, and career options and participate in great community service activities.

Psi Chi holds bi-monthly meetings with activities including guest lectures from community organizations such as the Alice Paul House, faculty and student panels on research, graduate school and career opportunities, GRE prep sessions, field trips to local psychological agencies such as Torrence State Hospital, and community service planning activities. Members may attend professional meetings, including the annual Eastern Psychological Association conference, and many members have presented papers or posters at this and other regional conferences. 

Currently Psi Chi functions as both an honor society and the psychology club. All students interested in psychology are encouraged to attend Psi Chi meetings and events, whether they're formal members of Psi Chi or not. 

Practicum

The Psychology practicumis the department’s internship for undergraduate students. Earn academic credit while getting hands-on experience in psychology by working in a variety of community agencies, institutions, businesses, and industrial settings within 500 miles of Indiana.

Professional organizations

The American Psychological Associationis a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With over 148,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide.

The Association for Psychological Science(APS: previously American Psychological Society) is a nonprofit membership organization whose membership includes over 18,500 psychologists in the United States and abroad whose specialties span the spectrum of scientific, applied, and teaching specialties.
